Apple's Influence: How Technology Enhances My Everyday Life
Written on
The Ubiquity of Apple
Apple is a constant presence in my daily life. Even during moments when I believe I’ve escaped technology, Apple remains nearby, providing support in a positive way. As a content creator, I often find myself spending excessive hours in my studio, writing and editing videos. This is simply part of the job, and while I signed up for this lifestyle, I genuinely appreciate the moments I can step away.
A significant highlight for me is my bi-weekly 75-mile commute to record "Minus Sixteen" with my co-host, Alex. The 90-minute drive provides a brief escape, offering a change of scenery, and I also enjoy our post-recording tradition of indulging in a delicious pub burger as a reward for our hard work!
In these moments, I attempt to disconnect from my digital life—well, as much as possible. If you appreciate this story, I'd love to hear from you! Feel free to engage in the comments, and I promise to respond.
Behind the Scenes of My Digital Life
However, my so-called "day off" isn’t entirely devoid of technology. As you can see in this behind-the-scenes image, my studio is still filled with digital devices, even when I'm trying to take a break!

What I’m really addressing is the amount of time I spend at my desk, engaging with my Macs and Studio Displays—this defines my digital existence. Just when I believe I’ve escaped technology, I realize that Apple is still part of my travels.
For instance, starting my car is facilitated by Apple technology. When I recently changed vehicles, I made sure to include a digital key feature for Apple Wallet. Not all car manufacturers offer this option, but it’s incredibly convenient. While I’m not prone to misplacing keys (fingers crossed), having the ability to go keyless means one less item to worry about.
That said, the BMW implementation of digital keys has its limitations. While it allows me to lock and unlock the doors using my watch or iPhone, it lacks some features of a traditional key, such as remote trunk opening. Although the digital key uses NFC technology, making it proximity-based, it would be advantageous to at least have the trunk operate through Apple Wallet.
Loving the Soundtrack
Apple CarPlay also allows me to enjoy my entire music library through Apple Music. This is a major plus for me as I prefer my curated collection over the playlists suggested by Spotify. I'm also a big podcast enthusiast, often listening to more podcasts than music.
The native Podcast app in CarPlay seamlessly continues where I left off, whether I started listening at home or on my watch. I can easily access my entire library of podcasts, all wirelessly, thanks to Apple’s ecosystem.
The Subtle Integration of Apple
Even when I’m supposedly disconnected from my screens, Apple is still there, enhancing my experience without being intrusive. Recently, I discovered that I could listen to podcasts directly on my Apple Watch—an unexpected delight that gives me moments of peace and solitude.
While Apple Wallet and CarPlay keep me connected, I appreciate that I’m not glued to a screen. When I’m in the car, I can navigate and enjoy podcasts, making the journey more enjoyable rather than resenting the technology that facilitates it.
Technology should enrich our daily lives, and that’s precisely what Apple and its products have done for me. The ecosystem often gets criticized as a closed garden, but perhaps it’s more about improving our lives and making daily tasks easier.
