You Can Never Retrieve the Precious Time Lost to Drinking

Chapter 1: The Cost of Indulgence
Regretting the hours squandered on drinking is a common sentiment; if only we could regain those moments to focus on what truly matters.
I used to relish my drinking sessions. Chardonnay was a personal favorite, and I enjoyed Black Russians until I discovered the delights of Cosmopolitans. They were not just visually appealing; they also had a fantastic taste. At one gathering, a bartender introduced me to Bourbon Manhattans—delicious yet dangerous.
These drinks brought me joy during my drinking days, but that happiness was often overshadowed the following day. There were mornings when I struggled to lift my head from the pillow. While this wasn't a daily occurrence, it was frequent enough to fill me with regret.
Regret stemmed not only from the toll on my body, mind, and spirit but also from the countless hours I had wasted. Have you ever considered how many outdoor activities you skipped due to a hangover? I certainly have. Or the significant meetings you missed because your mind was clouded? The fear of how those missed opportunities might affect your job is a heavy burden.
Some mornings, I found myself irritable and impatient with my children due to headaches and nausea. Luckily, I never missed work because of drinking, but there were instances when I showed up feeling far from my best. I knew that drinking on a weekday was unwise, yet I slipped up occasionally.
During my drinking phase, weekends were highly anticipated so I could indulge in the euphoric escape I craved. I paid little attention to the harm this caused, not just to my health but also to the invaluable time we all have.
Today, I hold a much deeper appreciation for time in my sobriety. While we can't control the passage of time, we can significantly influence how we choose to spend it. I am acutely aware of the time I have left on this beautiful planet and aim to make the most of every second.
Wasting time on regret is futile; we must release those feelings and move forward. Instead, let's dedicate our time to our passions, pursue our dreams, and cherish moments with loved ones. After all, isn't that what life is truly about?
