Transform Your Aspirations: Become a Writer by Writing

Written on

Chapter 1: The Reality of Writing

Many aspiring authors often find themselves discussing their ambitions to write without ever putting pen to paper. It’s astonishing how frequently this occurs.

This phenomenon is surprisingly common: aspiring writers express their intentions, yet fail to produce any written work.

Section 1.1: The Writer's Paradox

Isn't it interesting that the essence of being a writer is simply to write? This realization seems to elude many.

Have you ever explored the writing forums on Reddit? They are filled with individuals who identify as writers, yet spend their time lamenting about the challenges of actually writing. They share their aspirations and fantasies of finding enough time to commit to their craft.

However, these conversations often devolve into complaints such as:

  • “Writing feels like homework!”
  • “It’s such a struggle! How do people manage?”
  • “Thank goodness for AI like ChatGPT so I don’t have to do the hard work myself.”
  • “I have countless book ideas, but I dread writing! How can I get someone else to do it?”

What’s perplexing is that these are the same individuals who start their posts with enthusiasm about their writing dreams, only to finish with expressions of distaste for the writing process.

Section 1.2: Understanding the Writer's Identity

So, what does it really mean to call oneself a writer? Many of these self-identified writers claim, “I haven't written anything yet; all my stories are just ideas in my head because writing is too tough. How do I get my stories onto paper without actually writing?”

Wait a moment—how does that qualify them as writers? Do they fully grasp the meaning of the term "writing"?

Writers WRITE!

Dreamers, on the other hand, simply dream. They fantasize about their characters, but until those characters are written down, they remain just dreamers—not writers.

Dreaming about writing doesn't make you a writer.

Planning to write doesn’t make you a writer.

While dreaming and planning are important steps, the true transformation into a writer happens only when you begin to write.

Instead of just contemplating becoming a writer, take action by writing more. If you aspire to be a writer: Just start writing!
