Reclaim Your Time: 7 Essential Questions for a Balanced Life

Chapter 1: The Journey to Solopreneurship
Over fifteen years ago, I embarked on my journey as a solopreneur in real estate, envisioning a life of freedom and flexibility. I believed that this path would grant me the luxury of a customizable schedule, limitless income potential, and ample time for family and friends. At last, I would have complete control over my time.
However, shortly after marrying and planning a blended family, I quickly realized that with six children in the house, control over my schedule was a distant dream. Balancing family life alongside the demands of real estate—contracts, listings, inspections, and showings—made me acutely aware that real estate training doesn't fully equip you for the chaos of real life.
This challenge is not unique to me; many entrepreneurs across various fields face similar struggles. Often, they become overwhelmed, feeling crushed under the weight of their never-ending to-do lists.
As I ventured into blogging, coaching, and podcasting, I was determined to approach my work differently. While some seem to run their entrepreneurial ventures effortlessly, I understood that much of the work happens behind the scenes. The groundwork for success in these areas is substantial.
To help regain control over my schedule, I developed seven pivotal questions. These questions serve three primary purposes: identifying which activities to prioritize, determining when to tackle them, and recognizing tasks that can be delegated.
To harness the benefits of these questions, visualize your answers and jot them down in a journal for future reference when you're feeling overwhelmed.
Section 1.1: Discovering Your Peak Energy Times
- What time of the day do I feel most energized?
Recognizing when you have the most energy is vital for scheduling impactful activities in your life and business. By aligning tasks with your peak energy times, you can accomplish more in less time. Whether you’re a morning or night person, understanding your rhythm will help you maximize your productivity.
As Tony Robbins wisely states, "Where your focus goes, energy flows." Without harnessing your energy effectively, achieving meaningful results becomes challenging.
Section 1.2: Understanding Task Delegation
- What tasks on my schedule can I delegate to others?
We often feel the need to handle everything ourselves. In moments of struggle, it’s essential to ask, “What am I truly skilled at, and what drains my energy?” If a task feels overwhelming or burdensome, it may be time to consider delegation.
Delegating not only frees up your time but also allows you to focus on what you excel at, enhancing your overall productivity and enthusiasm.
Subsection 1.2.1: The Importance of Commitment vs. Interest
- Am I genuinely interested in what I have planned, or am I merely committed to it?
I used to maintain long to-do lists, which often left me feeling defeated. Instead, I recommend focusing on three significant tasks each day. This shift from a lengthy list to a focused commitment helps prevent feelings of inadequacy and fosters a sense of achievement.
Section 1.3: Evaluating Your Priorities
- What am I saying “Yes” to, and what am I saying “No” to?
Many individuals become overwhelmed because they lose track of their priorities. It's crucial to eliminate the urge to please everyone and reflect on whether tasks serve your current goals. If they detract from your focus or add unnecessary stress, it’s okay to decline.
Chapter 2: The Power of Consistency
The first video, "How to Get Your Life Back on Track: The Reset Method," discusses strategies for regaining control over your life and schedule, emphasizing the importance of commitment and consistency in achieving your goals.
- How will my life evolve over the next year if I commit to time blocking weekly?
The synergy of commitment and consistency can lead to remarkable transformations. By dedicating your most energetic hours to impactful activities, you can visualize a fulfilling future. Consider what that future entails—where you’ll be, who you’ll surround yourself with, and the legacy you’ll create.
- Am I establishing healthy boundaries?
Setting boundaries is crucial for ensuring that your time is respected. You have the right to define when you can be interrupted and when you cannot. This clarity helps prevent disruptions and maintains your focus.
- What standards do I uphold, and am I consistent in following them?
While we may desire respect for our boundaries, inconsistency can send mixed signals. Being clear about your standards not only helps you uphold them but also fosters accountability.
