# What Ignited Your Writing Passion? Share Your Story!

Chapter 1: The Spark of Creativity

What was the turning point that ignited your desire to write? It's fascinating to explore the events that lead us to express ourselves through the written word.

Writing can serve many purposes: to enlighten, entertain, inspire, or even to process our thoughts and emotions. Yet, beneath it all lies a shared motivation—most of us write to make a difference.

Is that true for you as well? What was the catalyst that drew you away from the distractions of daily life to immerse yourself in writing? What pivotal moment drove you to share your insights and narratives with others? Did your powerful ideas emerge from a routine of writing, or were they always there, waiting for the right moment to be voiced?

For me, the journey wasn’t about aspiring to be the next literary icon; it began with a conscious decision to unplug from the media. I referred to it as a “Media Fast.”

This was a transformative experience.

Prior to that, I was like many—consuming an excessive amount of media daily: six hours of TV, constantly playing video games, and scrolling through YouTube and Facebook. Conversations with my wife often revolved around whatever was on screen, with our interactions feeling secondary to the content we consumed. I hadn’t read anything substantial for 15 years—just brief snippets from magazines.

Then, something shifted. I felt compelled to turn it all off. I initiated a complete ban on television, movies, video games, and most online entertainment. I initially thought it would last only a few weeks, but it turned into two years.

To fill that newfound time, I devoured around 70 books covering philosophy, science, and culture. I engaged in scripture reading, meditation, and extensive journaling.

Within six months, people began to inquire about my philosophical knowledge, unaware that I had no formal degree. This experience reshaped my worldview, leading to what I call a “strategy of sight.” Everything I create now is filtered through this lens.

That was nearly twenty years ago.

Since then, I’ve authored six books, spoken at various conferences, consulted for wealthy individuals, and mentored many. New ideas frequently flow to me, whether I’m on a call or at my writing desk. The most rewarding moments are when someone tells me, “What you shared has changed my life.”

You probably experience similar feedback frequently.

So, what is the story that propelled you on your journey to impact others? I invite you to share in the comments, and I promise to engage. Perhaps we can inspire one another through our experiences.

My guiding principle is “Live inspired,” a mantra that emerged from my Media Fast.
