How to Achieve Ultimate Coolness: A Guide to Authentic Living

Written on

Chapter 1: Understanding Coolness

Everyone aspires to be seen as “cool.” It’s a natural human desire to be perceived as relaxed, popular, and effortlessly composed. This longing for coolness persists throughout life.

Growing up, I was lucky enough to have a father who epitomized coolness. He had an innate ability to be more charismatic than anyone else around him. While I may have been biased as a child, my perspective changed as I matured—I realized that others shared my view of him as exceptionally cool, which validates my judgment.

However, I’ve never exuded that same effortless coolness. Yet, I did inherit a certain “I don’t care” vibe from him.

Despite this, I still engage in activities that others might label as “uncool.” For instance, I often stroll around my neighborhood with a book in hand, likely earning the label of a nerd. I’ve also indulged in binge-watching shows like Pretty Little Liars every summer, which some might find cheesy. I even enjoy chatting with dogs in nearby cars during traffic, which could be seen as quirky.

But here’s the thing: I refuse to let others dictate my enjoyment. Their opinions mean nothing to me.

As we age, we begin to realize that the opinions of most people hold little significance, except for those who genuinely matter in our lives. If you’re not contributing positively to my life—be it through love or financial support—then your negative views don’t concern me.

What’s truly uncool? Mocking others for their passions. Instead of belittling those who pursue what they love, you should embrace your own interests without fear of judgment.

So, how can you embody coolness? The answer is simple: Stop caring about what others think. Focus on pursuing your passions and don’t feel ashamed for enjoying what you love.

Life is far too brief to waste on the opinions of those who don’t care about you. Live authentically, unapologetically—just be you.
