Chapter 1 Introduction and Setup – Creating Your Workspace

Have you truly discovered who you are yet?

Discovering Your True Self

TOOFEWSOAR is an acronym that will guide you throughout this guide. It serves as a framework to help you maintain momentum and stay aligned with your objectives. Below, you will find a breakdown of each letter in the acronym. Establishing a solid structure allows you to divide your tasks into manageable parts, enabling you to concentrate on one aspect at a time.

T is for THEME / TOPIC

Every coaching session should commence with a specific theme or focus. Even if the theme is somewhat flexible, it should help channel your thoughts and provide clarity regarding the session's aims. You might phrase it as: "The theme for today is _______" or "Today, my focus will be ______."

Questions to consider when defining your theme include:

  • What is the primary focus of this coaching session?
  • What holds significance for me at this moment?
  • What changes do I wish to make in my life, and why?

O is for OLD/OPEN

In this segment, reflect on your past goals. Ensure you have marked completed tasks while keeping them visible for future reflection. It's essential to acknowledge your achievements. Review your ongoing goals and their deadlines to confirm they are current. If you’re falling behind on your timeline, recognize the urgency to catch up.

Sample questions to consider:

  • Have I completed my goals and Ringo Shuffles (explained later) on schedule?
  • What improvements have I achieved this month?
  • Am I maintaining an accurate log of my actions?
Tracking Your Progress

The second O is for OBJECTIVES / RINGO SHUFFLES / GOALS / IMPROVEMENTS

Each chapter should concentrate on at least one key goal. These may include long-term aspirations, individual life objectives (from the Life Wheel discussed later), or Ringo Shuffles. Documenting this segment is crucial. Your objectives should be framed in a specific format:

"To progress with ______, I will _______ by mm/dd/yy."

Or, "To gain more _____, I will _____ by mm/dd/yy."

Aim to convert these objectives into habits before moving forward. Clearly outline your goals along with the incremental steps (Ringo Shuffles) you identify. As you achieve these, mark them off to maintain motivation toward your overarching goal. Choose to record them digitally with applications like Toodledo or on paper, based on your preference.

Questions to help clarify your objectives might include:

  • What is the most pressing change I need to make?
  • What do I aim to accomplish?
  • What do I wish to reduce in my life?

F is for FACTS / REALISM / ENCUMBRANCES / HURDLES

While every component is important, this section is crucial for making progress. To advance, you must step outside your comfort zone. Analyze the objectives you are setting, and identify any potential obstacles. Are there resources you lack? Are there individuals hindering your progress?

This section focuses on both the challenges you face and the elements that are working. Dig deep into your feelings and emotions, as this is where self-awareness can emerge, guiding the changes you desire.

Sample questions to contemplate include:

  • How do I feel about my current circumstances?
  • Why do I keep postponing tasks?
  • What have I been avoiding?
  • What has obstructed my progress toward my goals?
Overcoming Obstacles

E is for EXPLORE / OPTIONS / DIRECTION

In this part, take the insights gained from the previous section and assess the height of your hurdles. Explore all possible avenues to overcome them. You may need to adjust your objectives or consider smaller, incremental goals to achieve larger aims. This brainstorming stage should be open and free-flowing, allowing all ideas to surface before refining those that are most feasible.

Questions to explore further might be:

  • If I had unlimited resources, what actions would I take?
  • What could I reduce to bring me closer to my objectives?
  • Is there someone who can assist me with the next steps?

W is for WILL / WILLPOWER / MOTIVATION

This section is where the commitment to your goals solidifies. Determine what you are prepared to do to reach your objectives and when you will start. Expect to face challenges, and it’s essential to find the strength to persevere.

Motivational questions to ask yourself include:

  • What am I willing to commit to in pursuit of my goal?
  • What might deter me from taking the first step?
  • How will I remain dedicated to my objectives when faced with difficulties?

Additional Tips for SOAR

  • Search: Explore any ideas that could require further research.
  • Organize: Strategies to help with organization will be presented here.
  • Afformation: In "Afformations," Noah St. John emphasizes that positive affirmations are key to achieving abundance in health, wealth, love, and happiness. I will share some affirmations for each session. Consider reading Noah’s book, as these affirmations set the right mindset, but remember that action is essential.
  • Resources: A compilation of programs, books, and articles that may be beneficial will be included.

Assignment for This Session:

Whether handwritten or digital, find a secure location for your objectives and goals.

Extra Instructions

I want to ensure you understand how to format and track your Objectives, Goals, and Ringo Shuffles. Think of them as follows: Goals are long-term (1 year, 5 years, or 10 years), Objectives pertain to short-term changes, and Ringo Shuffles (to be explained in future sessions) are the small steps toward your Objectives. They should all follow the SMART criteria:

  • S for Specific: Goals should relate to one activity, thought, or idea.
  • M for Measurable: Goals should be trackable.
  • A for Actionable: There should be clear actions to take.
  • R for Realistic: Understand why you are setting this goal.
  • T for Timely: Define when you will start and when you aim to complete it.

Example:

I currently spend approximately 4 hours daily on social media or TV, totaling 28 hours weekly.

  • My goal is to dedicate 15 of those hours to learning Spanish by mm/dd/yyyy.
  • To achieve my goal of reducing social media time by 13 hours weekly, my short-term objective is to limit my screen time by mm/dd/yyyy. DONE
  • To reach my objective of decreasing social media use, I will aim for 3 1/2 hours a day by mm/dd/yyyy and document my time. DONE
  • This process continues, gradually reducing screen time until it becomes a habit over 30+ days, ensuring I don't regress.

As you reduce your time spent on social media, consider filling that time with Spanish lessons. The key is to document everything to review your progress, and reward yourself along the way.

While it may seem slow, rushing toward the end goal can lead to frustration. Taking manageable steps allows you to make consistent progress while maintaining a positive mindset. You can accelerate your Ringo Shuffles as you feel comfortable, but keep them small to avoid feeling overwhelmed. Document your journey using your preferred method, whether that’s on your phone, computer, or through apps like Toodledo.
